It was released by Sega on 7 October 2014 for third and current generation consoles (Playstations 3 and 4, XBox 360 and XBox One) and the PC. It was developed by The Creative Assembly studio, best known for their Total War game series. The game is played from a first-person perspective, only allowing single-player mode.
The game revolves around Amanda’s attempts at uncovering the secrets behind her mother’s disappearance as well as the events in the original Alien movie. The setting of the game takes place in the fictional space station Sevastopol, where Amanda uncovers a flight recorder that came from the Nostromo.
Unfortunately for her, the Sevastopol has also been infiltrated by a Xenomorph and has killed most of the space station’s crew. Players of Alien: Isolation will have to combine stealth, speed and strategic planning in order to help Amanda survive her ordeal, while uncovering additional clues about her mother’s whereabouts. For those who are fans of the Dead Space Franchise, Alien: Isolation is sure to conjure up a lot of interesting parallels. However, unlike the Dead Space series, Alien: Isolation does offer a few interesting elements of its own, including a unique aesthetics and gameplay.
The game received mostly favourable critical reviews, particularly in comparison with Sega’s previous Alien franchise games such as Aliens vs Predator and Aliens: Colonial Marines. GameRankings and Metacritic gave all versions of the game an over 77% approval rating. Critics praised the environment and pace of the game, the stealth mechanics, the AI of the alien and the nostalgic effect of Ridley Scott’s Alien.[/expand]
